End of Year Figures 2020/2021

22nd April 2021

The Southwark Foodbank supported 18,978 people (7,089 children and 11,889 adults) from April 2020 to March 2021, a total increase of 289% from 2019/2020.

To put it in perspective, we supported more children in 2020/2021 than the combined number of children and adults in 2019/2020. This isn’t right.

The Southwark Foodbank gave out 8,043 parcels in 2020/2021 compared to 3,344 parcels in 2019/2020. This is a 240% increase from the previous year.

The Trussell Trust today reported that the whole foodbank network across the UK gave out 2.5 million food parcels over the past year.

We know the pandemic has thrown so many people into crisis and that foodbanks have been supporting more people over the past year but people need better support. No one should need a foodbank.

That’s why we’re calling on candidates in the May elections to commit to working to end the need for #foodbanks. Let’s work together towards an #HungerFreeFuture.
